The Leadership Team

The offices and positions of District Lodge 2020 consist of the President, who is also the Directing Business Representative and Chairman of the Executive Board, the Secretary-Treasurer, six (6) at-large Executive Board members, and the elected Business Representatives.

The current key Representatives of District Lodge 2020 appear in the photo above. The Directing Business Representative and District Lodge President is Larry Battle, to your left. Larry is the Business Representative for Zone 74. Next to him is Charles Mann, who is the Assistant Directing Business Representative and the Business Representative for Zone 10. The next picture is that of Wilbert Woods, the Business Representative for Zone 110, and finally to the far-right Charlie Long, who is the Business Representative at Large, assisting as needed to help accomplish the objectives of the District Lodge.

The former Secretary-Treasurer of District Lodge 2020 is Linda Henderson. Linda also comes out of Local Lodge 97, along with District President Battle, and At-Large Business Representative Long. Before the transition from District Lodge 74 to District Lodge 2020, Linda also occupied a position of Office-Manager at the Virginia Beach, Virginia office location. During the October 2022 district lodge meeting held in Raleigh, it was announced that Linda would be retiring from the Office-Manager position.

Linda is a great asset to the District Lodge 2020 team.

The members pictured below were elected to positions on the District Lodge 2020 Executive Board during the Inaugural Convention in 2021. Like any organization, some of the pictured members for a variety of reasons are no longer in those positions and any vacated position would be filled through an appointment by the District Lodge President.

Pictured below are Brianna Sowers to the left and Louise Lopinto to your right, Brianna is working out of the Zone 10 location in Richmond, Virginia and Louise is working at the Havelock, North Carolina location. These dedicated administrative staffers perform a variety of duties that keep the District Lodge running smooth and efficiently.

Meet the GVP and Staff of the Southern Territory

Craig Martin joined the IAM Executive Council as Southern Territory General Vice President on Nov. 1, 2023. He had previously served as IAM Southern Territory Chief of Staff since 2018.

Martin initiated into the IAM as a machinist apprentice at PPG Industries in Lake Charles, La. in 1997. He quickly became involved in the union, and he has held almost every union position available during his career, including Shop Steward, Local Lodge Communicator, President, District 161 Financial Secretary, President of the Louisiana State Council of Machinists, and Executive Board Member of the Southwest Louisiana Central Trades and Labor Council. Martin served as the District Business Representative of District 161 for 10 years from 2008 until 2018.

Martin is a passionate advocate for workers’ rights. During his career, he has fought for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions for IAM members throughout the Southern Territory. He is also a strong supporter of IAM apprenticeship programs and workforce development. He has committed his entire career to improving the lives of our members and growing the IAM.

Saying so long to IP, Robert Martinez, Jr., who has done an outstanding job as the leader of our great organization, and hello to the current IAM Headquarters’ GVP, Brian Bryant who will take the reign as International President on January 1, 2024.

About Brian Bryant – Brian Bryant has been active in the labor movement for nearly 30 years, initiating into the IAM in 1989 when he joined Local Lodge S6 while employed at Bath Iron Works in Bath, ME. After serving as Resident General Vice President at IAM Headquarters since October 1, 2018, Bryant was assigned to serve as Eastern Territory General Vice President, effective July 1, 2021. On May 1, 2022, General Vice President again resumed his role as Resident General Vice President at IAM Headquarters.

A Pipefitter by trade, Bryant became active in his Local Lodge serving on various committees, as well as being elected as a Shop Steward, Trustee, and President of Local Lodge S6. He also served on the Executive Board of the Maine AFL-CIO, and in 1998 was elected Directing Business Representative of District Lodge 4.

In 2004, Bryant was appointed by International President R. Thomas Buffenbarger as a Special Representative assigned to General Vice President Lynn D. Tucker, Jr. in the Eastern Territory. He was appointed Grand Lodge Representative in 2006 assigned to the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts as well as shipbuilding and Repair in the Eastern Territory.

General Vice President Lynn D. Tucker, Jr. reassigned Bryant in 2008 to the Eastern Territory office in Cincinnati, OH to handle all National Labor Relations Board activity for the territory. On July 1, 2009, he was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff of the Eastern Territory.

Bryant served in that capacity until being appointed to the IAM Executive Council as General Vice President assigned to the Eastern Territory. On August 1, 2016, Bryant began as General Vice President serving in the General Secretary-Treasurer’s office at Headquarters in Upper Marlboro, MD.
